Context.dev announced a $9M seed round led by General Catalyst on October 19, 2026. Founder Yahia Bakour shared the news in a blog post rather than a traditional press release. The company is also a Y Combinator alum. The announcement does not name other investors or give a valuation.
Bakour founded the company as Brand.dev, built on the idea that any developer should be able to build software that understands the world it serves. Its first products returned a company’s logo, colors, and fonts through an API, so apps could personalize themselves for a new customer. According to Bakour, the alternatives at the time were enterprise contracts with sales calls or maintaining a pile of in-house scrapers.
Customer requests then widened the product. Teams asked for product extraction, company answers, page-to-Markdown conversion, and full-domain crawling. As AI agents spread, Bakour says the central question became how an agent reads the internet. Earlier this year, Brand.dev was renamed Context.dev to reflect that shift.
The platform now covers several capabilities:
Scraping and batch crawling
Live web search
People and company search
Domain mapping
Change monitoring
Answers with sources
Brand data
Developers can reach it through an API, SDKs, a CLI, and an MCP server. The company recently added Highlights, which returns only the relevant passages of a page so agents spend fewer tokens, and news search.
Context.dev says customers include Upstash, which uses it to crawl sites for its Context7 documentation service, and Mintlify. It also names Similarweb, Mastra, and Zero, whose CRM keeps data on more than 20 million companies fresh. The company says it has never shipped a breaking change and offers self-serve access with no lock-in. It lists SOC 2 Type 2 compliance. These claims are self-reported.
Bakour says the funding is meant to keep building toward that goal, and the company is hiring.
